Friday, March 20 is coming in heavy. Poison The Well's long-awaited return, a stacked thrash drop from Exodus, and Gaerea pushing the post-black metal ceiling — this is one of the strongest single-day release slates of 2026 so far. Here's what's dropping.
Poison The Well — Peace In Place (SharpTone)
Seventeen years. That's how long it's been since Poison The Well released a studio album. Tear From the Red came out in 2007. The band broke up in 2010. And now, somehow, they're back — and Peace In Place is their first new record since before streaming was a thing.
The Miami metalcore band built their reputation across the mid-2000s as one of the genre's sharpest acts, blending hardcore aggression with genuine emotional weight in a way most of their peers couldn't pull off. Albums like The Opposite of December and You Come Before You remain scene touchstones. Then they were gone.
The reunion shows over the past decade kept the door open, but a full studio record? That takes commitment. Vocalist Jeffrey Moreira, the only frontman they've ever had, anchors the band alongside founding members Ryan Primack (guitar) and Chris Hornbrook (drums). Peace In Place drops via SharpTone Records, the same label that handles Wage War, Bad Omens, and Spiritbox — a strong home for a band stepping back into a scene that has evolved dramatically since they left it.
This is the return story of the year for metalcore. Whether it lives up to seventeen years of expectation is a question that gets answered Friday.

Gaerea — Loss (Century Media)
Portuguese masked collective Gaerea have been one of the most talked-about names in post-black metal for the better part of the last decade, and Loss is their Century Media debut — a significant step up in platform for a band that built their following through sheer force of craft.
Loss follows 2022's Mirage, which was widely considered one of the stronger black metal releases of that year. The band operates with full anonymity — no names, no faces — and uses that mystique to keep the focus entirely on the music. Century Media signing them is a vote of confidence from the label that also handles Gaerea's peers in the post-black/atmospheric space. This one's for the black metal readers.

Exodus — Goliath (Napalm Records)
We've covered Goliath extensively here at Metal Mantra — from the album announcement and tour details to Gary Holt's recent interview about what comes next. But it's worth noting here: Goliath is out Friday, and it's the thrash release you've been waiting for.
Produced by the band themselves and mixed by Mark Lewis, the album brings back Rob Dukes on vocal duties alongside the classic Exodus lineup of Holt, Lee Altus, Tom Hunting, and Jack Gibson. Guest contributions include Katie Jacoby on strings and Peter Tägtgren in a production capacity on select tracks. If you haven't preordered it, Friday's your day.

Axel Rudi Pell — Ghost Town (Steamhammer)
German heavy/power metal institution Axel Rudi Pell returns with his 22nd studio album, Ghost Town, out Friday via Steamhammer. Pell has been releasing records continuously since 1989 and has built one of the most consistent discographies in European hard rock — not flashy, not trendy, just reliable heavy metal delivered on a regular schedule. Fans of classic European power metal and hard rock know what they're getting.

Egregore — It Echoes In The Wild (20 Buck Spin)
Canadian blackened death metal outfit Egregore drop their latest on cult label 20 Buck Spin this Friday. The band — connected to scene stalwarts Mitochondrion and Auroch — operate in the occult extremity end of the spectrum: technically demanding, atmospherically vast, and unapologetically dark. Engineered by Mariessa McLeod and mixed/mastered by Arthur Rizk (Power Trip, Code Orange), It Echoes In The Wild should be on every underground metal listener's radar.

Also Dropping March 20
The release calendar doesn't stop there. A few more worth noting:
- Aerosmith – Aerosmith (Legendary Edition) (Capitol) — The original 1973 debut gets the deluxe treatment with remastered audio and archival material. Legacy act, but a genuinely historic document of hard rock's early days.
- Cronos – Dancing In The Fire (Re-Release) (Dissonance) — Cronos of Venom solo material getting the reissue treatment.
- Warsenal – Endless Beginnings... (Massacre) — Canadian thrash, underground release worth a listen if you dig the raw end of the genre.
- Poison Ruin – Hymns From The Hills (Relapse, drops April 3) — worth noting it's coming soon.
March 20 is a legit release day. Mark your calendar, queue up your streaming service, and check back Friday when reviews start dropping.
