Grim
Extreme Metal Writer
Grim covers the end of the spectrum that most outlets treat as a footnote. Death metal, black metal, doom, sludge, grindcore, prog, tech — the bands that built the genre's heaviest corners and the ones still pushing further into them. If the album requires a certain threshold of commitment to appreciate, that’s exactly where Grim lives.
The approach is simple: write about this music the way it deserves to be written about. No condescension toward the listener, no apology to the mainstream. Genre literacy matters here. The difference between a tremolo-picked black metal riff and a death metal riff matters. Production choices matter. Lineup changes matter. Grim covers all of it with the same seriousness the artists bring to making it.
The beat runs from legacy acts — bands that defined the genre decades ago and are still making records — to underground acts that haven’t broken through yet but will. Grim doesn’t wait for a press release to decide something matters.
