Eva Under Fire Announce New Album Villainous Out July 10 — Watch the Title Track feat. Maria Brink
Detroit hard rock quintet Eva Under Fire have announced their second album, Villainous, set for release on July 10 via Better Noise Music. To kick things off, the band has shared the video for the title track — a grinding, industrial-tinged hard rock anthem featuring a guest appearance from In This Moment's Maria Brink. Pre-order it here.
"Villainous" arrives with crunchy industrial textures straight out of the late '90s and early 2000s hard rock playbook, but Eva Under Fire bring it into the present with the dual-vocal interplay between frontwoman Amanda Lyberg and Brink. It's the kind of track that makes the collaboration feel obvious in retrospect — two voices with something to prove, on a song built around exactly that.
Lyberg puts it plainly: "They thought I would always be compliant, but they pushed me too far. I make my own rules now. Standing up for myself, owning my truth leaves me looking like a villain to those I have left behind."
On the link-up with Brink, she adds: "I've been a Maria Brink fan for years so this is a full-circle moment! Her vocal on this track gives it the energy it needed. I honestly can't think of a better feature given the song's message. Two fierce women's voices on a hard rock song about taking your power back? A match made in villainy for sure."
Brink weighs in: "When I first heard the song and saw the video, I knew right away I wanted to be involved. I can't wait for everyone to experience both the music and the visuals."
Real Stakes Behind the Record
Villainous follows Eva Under Fire's 2022 debut Love, Drugs & Misery and marks a notably heavier direction for the Detroit outfit. If you've been following hard rock's current wave, Eva Under Fire are one of the genre's more interesting stories right now. Lyberg — a practicing psychotherapist specializing in trauma, grief, and addiction recovery — drew on her background to guide the album's creative process, pushing for open dialogue among the band during recording.
The personal stakes are real. Lyberg lost her father to a fentanyl overdose in 2018, the same year she completed her Master of Arts in Psychology. Her mother survived the same batch and has been sober for six years. That history isn't just lyrical inspiration — it's structural DNA.
Her story was also the basis for the 2023 short film My Rockstar, which used Eva Under Fire music throughout and has won over 20 awards at festivals including Orlando Film Fest, Wild Rivers Film Festival, and Toronto WILDfilm Festival.
Supporting To Write Love On Her Arms
In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month (May), the band has added a DONATE button to the "Villainous" video, directing fans to To Write Love On Her Arms — a nonprofit dedicated to hope and recovery for people struggling with depression, addiction, and self-injury. The fundraiser runs through the end of May.
"TWLOHA describes themselves as a non-profit dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, and self-injury. Those are the same demons being fought in the 'Villainous' music video so it's honestly a perfect fit," says Lyberg.
